GOLF COURSE Pete Dye design concepts have been well documented as some of the best championship courses ever conceived and constructed. Although the Cardinal couse was one of his earliest designs, his genius was well evident in 1975 when the Cardinal debuted as one of the finest tests of golf in the region and has remained as such over the years. With the club's purchase by McConnell Golf Properties in June 2006, Mr. Dye returned to renovate and restore his original design into a superb test of golf ensuring his legacy as one the most well known and respected golf course architects of our time.
The fully restored Par 70 layout has been lengthened to provide a stern, but equitable test of golf for players of all skill levels. The course is both unique and demanding, providing scenic views covering over 140 acres of well-kept, rolling terrain. Its two lakes and meandering creeks add to both the beauty and challenge of the Cardinal, and its richly deserved reputation as one of the finest golf courses in the Carolinas.
The primary attraction of the Cardinal is golf at its absolute best. Most players find it very diffcult to match the quality of a Pete Dye golf course when compared to the play of any other course. A Dye-stamped course is something that has to be seen and played for one to really appreciate the artistic skills of his design concepts.
PRACTICE FACILITY The newly remodeled practice facility is one of the finest state-of-the art facilities in the State. The practice tee area has been remodeled and lengthened making it larger and more efficient. Several target greens and bunkers have been added to the practice fairway to present a more realistic setting for the golfer. In addition, Titleist practice balls are available on the range as well, maximizing the opportunty to experience true playing conditions. The putting green, chipping and pitching areas, and green side bunkers have been relocated and totally redesigned to offer real course simulated situations to improve the golfers' short game skills.
